Default Need some advice

Ehy guys i played a warrior for the last 4 years and i made a ranger recently,
and im stuck in making the build i want to see.
What i want is basically: degen, maintainable 33% IAS, low arc size, dps.
I came out with this [Burning Arrow][Penetrating Attack][Sundering Attack][Rapid Fire][D-shot]
and the last 3 are for survivability purpose.
I use a recurve bow so i have low arc, decent atk spd and medium range.
I tried the shortbow but meh, its range is so low i could go melee at that point.
Flatbow is out of discussion obviously, since no RtW (RF is prep, sigh) and
recasting FW everytime i move to the next mobs is painfully boring and slow.
Hornbow... so slow i could roll a blunt between the shots, not worth the 10%
or at least it's not for me, i like shooting fast.

This worked well till i noticed that 25 seconds of IAS are not enough and RF
ends at about 3/4 and sometimes 2/3 of battle.
Recasting it in battle is wasting 2 sec in which i could DPS.
This could be solved with Lightning Reflexes, though.

Now you might think "so what? you seem happy with your build".
Well i do. But i'd like to make a similar build for the flatbow, because
everytime i switch to it and shoot like a machingun i feel like i want
to make this build suitable for it. The gap between 2.0 and 2.4 is not
that unnoticiable like someone may think.

Should i waste in Beast and take Tiger's Fury+RtW? (25% is not as cool as 33 though)
I dont want to give up IAS, it's a crapload of dmg and makes me
"kill things quickly" just as i like.
But i also want the fire rate of a flatbow and the range of a recurve bow.

What do you think?

If this is for PvE, take a look at Expert's Dexterity as your elite (~19s of 33% IAS and +2 to Marks with 20r).

Degen - Apply Poison as the prep
IAS - almost 100% upkeep with any respectable level of Expertise
Low arc - recurves FTW
DPS - +2 to Marksmanship always helps

That elite covers almost all your needs, and if you were using Burning Arrow, you even have the game it comes in.

Edit: I just noticed that you want to switch to flatbow. If that's the case, you could try to work Favorable Winds into an ED build, but personally I can't stand casting nature rituals.

I personally run this for a turret build in PvE.

Prepared Shot, Sundering Attack, Penetrating Attack, D-shot, Lightning Reflexes, Dwarven Stability (the stance extender), Read The Wind, Res.

At max dwarf, you can keep LR up 2/3 of the time, this make great self defence as well as a decent IAS.

The build doesnt have a permanent IAS, and it uses RTW, so it may not be exactly what you are looking for, but i suggest you give it a try and see how you find it.

On wiki it says Expert's Dexterity last 16 sec at 12 Exp, so to have it 100% up
with its 20s recharge i would need to have 15 Exp...
Maybe, considering it gives +2 marks i could put a minor marks rune
and have a 13+2=15 attribute while under the effect, so i'd have 15 marks and 15 exp.

Your build is awesome, the only downside is not having a damaging elite
but maybe perma IAS + prep makes up for it.
And the fact that block stances cancels it but if im using them is means
im in a bad situation thus atk speed wouldn't matter.

A question, if i put RtW as a prep can i use a flatbow effectively?
Else, what other prep do you suggest a part from poison, for dps/spike?

I hate casting spirits too. 5 damn seconds casting time, 60 damn secs recharge.

Personally I always run with no less than 14 (12+1+1) Expertise. IMO the energy benefits are just too great to pass up when compared to an extra point or two in Marksmanship.

subarucar also mentioned a great skill for a ranger, Dwarven Stability. Doubling the length of stances is amazing on any profession, but (again IMO) rangers have the best stances in the game since almost every one has two positive effects. Using that with ED means 35-40 seconds of the IAS and +2 to Marks, far more than the 100% upkeep you're looking for. If you're worried about ED not allowing you to use blocking stances, I would suggest setting up your heroes with at least two copies of Aegis.

If I was going to run the build I'm suggesting for you, it's three attributes - Expertise, Marksmanship, and Wilderness (Apply Poison). I would probably try something like 12+1+1 Expertise, 11+1 (or 2) Marksmanship, 6+1 Wilderness.

As for your final questions, Read the Wind is probably the best general prep for PvE, and certainly allows you to use a flatbow. It will allow you to use your attacks at a flatbow range with the flight arc of a recurve. Honestly, the only preps I would consider for general PvE use would be Apply, RtW, or Glass Arrows (but that one's elite).

Ok i got it, i think i will go like this:

Penetrating, Sundering, ED, RtW, Whirlwind def, Throw Dirt, Antidote sig, Conjure Shock
Big and fast dps at max atk speed, range and accuracy. Exactly what i was looking for!

Thank you guys.

EDIT: I'm thinking about removing whirlwind and replace it with another
attack, what would you suggest?
I lurked wiki for an hour but i cant find any decent one, except the half-ranged ones,
maybe old power shot but it got nerfed.

Forgot to mention this in my other post, but i usually swap out the Res for Asura Scan, it gives a big damage buff if you use it before firing off Penentrating and Sundering.
You could always try Asura Scan as you replacement for Whirling Defence. I would also fit D-shot into that bar somewhere, of all the times i take condition removal or Throw Dirt in PvE, i never find i use it more than once or twice in an explorable area, so it may be worth dropping them for something that mmay be more usefull.

"I Am The Strongest" triggers on skills?
If so i could go like:

[*attack skill*][Penetratin][Sunderin][ED][RtW][Dirt][IATS][Conjure]

+19 from IATS
+11 from Conjure
+10 from RtW

This way i should always hit for +40 with normal hits and spike with the skills, right?
Assuming to cast IATS before battle i could do this for 14 hits.
Or i could try asura but im not sure, conjure+asura every mob drain energy,
but i'll definitely try this too.

What would you say is good damage? i run a ivory bow ( hornbow ) being hornbow it's refire rate is 2.7 secs. however being a medium arc and range makes it a overall good bow to use, as well having a 10% armor penetration as all hornbows do makes it a very nasty weapon to run. i wish i could post my screen shot of my spike dmg on master of damage using the hornbow.

Master of Damage: You did 576 damage over 2 seconds, for an average of 288 damage per second
Master of Damage: Your best damage in a single second was 471, done at 1 second.
Master of Damage: Death occurred after 2 seconds.

the build that produced this is a conjure + asura and of course the right mods. this build is not at it's full potential as i am 2 ranks shy of max title. Bip is a big help in mob fights. Nundu Bay mission in HM final harbinger, harbinger of nightfall went down in 9 seconds. wiki basically says 2 applications of vial of purified water as it only lasts 10 seconds. the harbinger at half health brings in margonites. this game he had no time to bring any help in as he went down too quickly. masters reward in HM.

Only spec in Beast if You like having an Companion on your side otherwise look at skills like lightning reflexes flurry frenzy(if your brave) personally I wouldn't wanna waste an Elite or Preperation(Rapid Fire) for an IAS because there are a lot of other options out there

lightning reflexes is in the build and rapid fire is not. the elite is glass arrows. Bip is on a hero or other player. not much actually gets close enough to me to do any real damage to me as well, they are dead. i don't believe in wasting runes on health but a high expertise and marksmanship now thats the when the real hurt begins. at 405 health with a health mod on the bow i need to hurt things quickly. and i do hurt things very quickly. i like the hornbow cause it has a 10% armor penetratiion. i get requests for help in doing vanquish in HM so i must hold my own very well

The rapid fire preparation would work nicely.

You could use that with Burning Arrow and the poison tip signet.

Winner. R/W is not just for Thumpers. Since you are using a bow (and asking about viable use of a Flatbow, which has the longest range out of all the bows) you should be more than safe using Frenzy as an IAS. 5e every 8sec isn't that bad for +33% IAS, and if you can pick and choose when you use it (if that's a big deal for you, that is).

"I Am the Strongest!" is a viable damage buff, as is "Dodge This!" (4A cost, and you aren't using Adrenaline for anything else, now are you?).

12+1+1 Expertise
12+1 Marksmanship

Read the Wind
Frenzy
"I Am the Strongest!"
"Dodge This!"
Burning Arrow
Penetrating Attack
Sundering Attack
Savage Shot / Distracting Shot (10e, 5 recharge, +dmg vs. 5e, 10 recharge)

Like this?

Expertise 12+1+1
Marksmanship 12+1

Penetrating Attack
Sundering Attack
Savage Shot
Distracting Shot
Read the Wind
Expert's Dexterity
optional
optional
For the optionals, I like Asuran Scan and "Save Yourselves!"
For use with a 15^50 Vampiric Flatbow of Fortitude, optimally
